John the Baptist was a preacher who preached in the wilderness. He probably preached in the wilderness of Judea because he didn’t care about social class. In chapter 3 verse 3, it says, “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness prepare ye the way of the Lord, makes his path straight.” This demonstrates that John was telling the people to prepare because God was coming. Also, this demonstrates that John was the voice of many people. John is an honest person. In chapter 3 verse 11 it says, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier that I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.” This shows that John is not lying to people and that he is honest because he is admitting that the one who is coming after him is the true and the real God preacher. Something interesting happens in chapter 3 verse 16, when Jesus goes to John to get baptize. This is like a symbol of the old ending and opening the path to the new to start. While John was in prison, Jesus started doing miracles and preaching to the people. In chapter 4, verse 12 through 17 we see that Jesus started preaching after John was in jail, but we also see that he went to areas that did not followed Christianity because he was scared and did not wanted to end in prison like John. Even though John was opening the path to Jesus to start, he didn’t fully believe him. In chapter 11 verse 2 it says, “Now that John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples”. This demonstrated that John wanted to verify that it was him for real and not a scammer. John probably wanted to protect the people and leave them with someone safe since he knew that he will die.The relationship between John the Baptize and Jesus is not simple. The significance of this relationship is that John is from the old testament and Jesus is from the new testament. They are related because John must give up for Jesus to start his journey because since the two of them work the same, they can’t be in the same society.
